The sixth grade went to the BYU Planetarium to learn more about the planets and different constellations. Afterwards, they went to Classic Skating where they enjoyed riding scooters, rollerblading, and skating. The day was awesome!
Our Dr. Seuss Week last week was a lot of fun! The theme for each day was based on a book by Dr. Seuss. We had green day (Green Eggs and Ham), Who hair day (Horton Hears a Who), crazy sock day (Fox in Socks), and hat day (The Cat in the Hat). The week ended with a Read-a-Thon. Thank you for participating and for helping to make a memorable week!
To kick off our Dr. Seuss Week Orchard Hills had their 2016 Family Literacy Night! There were lots of break-out sessions, treats, and drawings for prizes. The break-out sessions were: Dr. Seuss Bingo, Book Walk, Make & Takes, Family Photo Booth, Dr. Seuss Carnival Games, and Read-a-Louds. It was a lot of fun! Thank you for those that came! To get ready for Dr. Seuss Week each class is displaying something in the hall about a book by Dr. Seus. Come take a walk around to see what everyone has done!
The kindergartners at Orchard Hills recently studied a unit about Science. They learned that science is so many things. Some of the students had the opportunity to do a science project and present to their class. Some of the students did experiments and others learned about a specific thing in science to teach their class about. We love science!
Discovery Gateway came to the school to talk to the 5th grade classes about chemical and physical reactions. They reminded us of the difference between the two types of reactions. The students had a lot of fun learning through cool demonstrations and hands-on experiments.
The sixth grade Service Committee designed and created a math game for
first graders. Afterwards the whole sixth grade played the game with
the first graders in order to practice place value skills.
The Chess Team from Orchard Hills took 5th Place overall at the District Chess Tournament. Members are: Adam Roberts (10th), Logan Sharp, Braxton Sharp (7th), Dillon Farr (11th), Ethan Lindsay (12th), Jade Zeeman, McKenzie Martinez, Dalan Durrant (8th), Easton Durrant (10th), Caleb Sharp, and Andrew Durrant. Way to go!! Congratulations!
This week the kindergartners have been learning about Bears! They learned about fact and fiction and had fun reading lots of stories about bears. Today was Teddy Bear Day! What a fun day!
There is always something going on in our special education cluster classrooms. Not only do we learn inside the classroom, but we also take trips into the community two times per month. Some of the things we do on these trips are: participate in adaptive aquatics and gym kids over at Brigham Young University, visit the local Junior High classrooms in our area so our 6th graders are ready to make the transition from elementary school, visit the Bean Museum, take wagons to the Red Barn, bowling, shopping (our favorite is ice cream at Macey's), and many many more adventures.&
