Community Helpers

The kindergarten classes just finished talking and learning about community helpers.  They were able to have a couple community helpers come and talk to them about what they do.  A couple firemen came along with some of those that work with the ambulance.  They talked about what they do and they taught about safety.  The kindergartners practiced Stop, Drop, and Roll.  They were able to look at the fire truck and also walk through the ambulance.  Thank you to our many community helpers! 

Kindergarten Field Trip

In March the kindergarten classes went on a field trip.  They went to the Scera Theater and saw the play "The Cat in the Hat."  They loved it!  They had lunch at the park and played there.  Then they went to BYU Campus and the Bean Museum presented a live animal show.  They talked about animal differences and brought in a tarantula and a snake for the kindergartners to look at.  It was a fun day!

Ballet West

Ballet West Company came to Orchard Hills and they talked to the students about being fit and having good posture. They told about how hard they work but you can't see it on their faces. They try very hard to make it look easy. They also talked about good balance and form. They modeled what you would see in a ballet class and talked about different positions of ballet.

Classic Skating

Third-graders at Orchard Hills had a fun field trip.  They went to the Scera Theater in Orem and saw the play The Cat in the Hat and then they went to Classic Skating.  What a fun day!

Temples and Tombs

The sixth-grade classes at Orchard Hills presented Temples and Tombs to students and parents at the beginning of March.  It is always such a well done performance. Great job sixth-graders!  They spent a lot of time learning, practicing, and getting ready.  Even King Tut made an appearance!

Reading Night

Monday, March 3, Orchard Hills Elementary had a Family Reading Night to kick off a fun week of reading and Dr. Seuss activities.  There were lots of activities going on around the school.  Some of the activities were:  used book exchange, ways to promote literacy at home, Dr. Seuss Bingo, children's books classic videos, book talks, read-a-louds, literacy websites and apps, programs available at Santaquin City Library, and refreshments and prizes.  What a fun night!  Thanks to those that helped and those that came.

100th Day of Kindergarten

February 7th was the 100th day of kindergarten!!  The school year is flying along!  Kindergartners celebrated by bringing 100 things to show.  Counting to 100, building with 100 cups, building with 100 sticks, building with 100 cubes, stamping to 100, and many more fun 100 day activities.  What a great 100th day of school!

Biobodies

Sixth-grade students at Orchard Hills read a biography of their choice.  They then created a biobody of that person and presented what they learned.  

What Makes a Hero?

Orchard hill elementary had an assembly called "What Makes a Hero?" It was put on by Doug Osmond who works closely with Richard Paul Evans, author of The Christmas Box and Michael Vey. He talked about being honest, respectful, and hard work! It was entertaining and fun. He also stressed the Importance of reading to succeed!

Netsmart Assembly

Students at Orchard Hills enjoyed the Netsmart Assembly!  With the younger grades they brought up 4 points:
  1. If you see something that makes you sad, scared, or confused then tell a trusted adult.
  2. Don't share your name or address online.
  3. Do not meet anyone face to face offline.
  4. Netiquette--do not be mean or fude online. 
The netsmart assembly taught the upper grades how to be safe on the internet.  The students learned about how to keep private information off their online profiles.
