For the month of March, Orchard Hills students participated in a reading contest, and one winner was picked from each class to participate in the Basketball Shoot Off for Reading!  Each winner shot baskets to win up to $7. They were also able to get a little help from the Payson High Basketball Team. Thanks so much for coming, guys! We had a great time cheering on our friends, and we sure have enjoyed our month of celebrating reading!

 Class Winners:

Mrs. Kelley's class enjoyed the 2nd grade field trip to Olson's Greenhouse and Farm Field Days (sponsored by Harward Farms).  We learned how much we depend on farmers for our food.  We loved watching a lamb get sheared!

The first graders in Mrs. Andrews' class researched different animals, and presented their reports to parents and 5th grade buddies! Great job, 1st graders!

Mrs. Kelley's class has been learning about animal adaptations.  We talked about an owl's food chain and learned that all animals depend on plants.  We learned that owls have an organ called a gizzard where the hard parts of their food that they cannot digest  are stored, then regurgitated.  We dissected these "pellets" to discover the bones of animals that the owls had eaten.  It was so much fun!  We were able to match the bones we found with a diagram of a vole, which a big part of an owl's diet.

First grade made traps to catch those pesky leprechauns! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Mr. Craig's class made coil pots!  The students will glaze them after they are fired. So fun!

Dr. Petersen came from Nephi to speak with the first grade about good oral hygiene habits. Thanks for helping us understand how we can take care of our smiles!

The Payson Junior High Choir came and performed at Orchard Hills. They are all so talented, and their hard work was very apparent! Thank you for coming! 

We had a room full of Cougar Pride winners at the Rootbeer Float Party today! Students can receive Cougar Paws from their teachers by being kind, helping, showing positive behavior, being a good friend, and through many other ways. When a child gets a Cougar Paw, they take it to the office and their name is added to the Cougar Pride Board. These kids were chosen from the board to come to the party. We are so proud of our cougars and the PAWSitive choices they make! We can't wait for our next party!
