On September 26th the students at Orchard Hills attended an assembly by brothers Adam adn Jarom Sidwell.  The brothers are graphic artists and Adam's first book, Evertaster, is just coming out.  They talked to the students about the power of stories.  They taught that when writing stories they should be SMART stories.

SMART stories have:

  1. Structure
  2. Moral Choice
  3. Aim to finish (set goals)
  4. Real Life
  5. Theme

The Sidwell brothers encouraged students to write stories with friends, write comics, write a script, and make movies.  They said it all starts with a writing.  They then took some time to talk to just the fifth-grade classes.

The fith-graders at Orchard Hills loved spending some extra time with brothers Adam and Jarom Sidwell, graphic artits who have worked on various motion pictures and who are now excited to be to be visiting schools introducing Adam's first book, Evertaster.  The Sidwell brothers had fun with the kids as tehy talked about what it takes to be a good writer.  They laid out some important elements of a story and guided  a brainstorm with the kids to lay the foundation for a new story.  They talked about the importance of thinking your story all the way through before writing it out.  The students were eager to participate and share their ideas as the collaborative story was being created.  The energy and enthusiasm of the Sidwell brothers got teh students excited about writing creative stories of their own.
