Orchard Hills Elementary Celebrates Veterans Day

To celebrate Veterans Day and 11/11/11, students at Orchard Hills gathered names of Veterans they were related to.  Those names were tied to red, white, and blue balloons.  Over 3,000 Veterans names were tied to the balloons.  The students then honored them by meeting together, saying the pledge, and singing the National Anthem.  At 11:11 A.M. the 111 balloons were released.  We then had a moment of silence.  We were privileged and honored to have some Veterans share in the celebration and tribute.  One special guest was Blaine Cannon, the great-grandfather of Cael and Cam Ford.  Mr. Cannon is a Veteran who served in two wars, World War II and the Korean War.  It was a memorable experience and a tradition we plan to continue at Orchard Hills Elementary.
