Jennifer Ramos is an early childhood special education teacher at Orchard Hills Elementary in Nebo School District and was chosen as this week's Educator of the Week. Ramos shared the following with the Daily Herald:

I graduated from BYU in Elementary Education and continued on to receive my early childhood endorsement. After having a child that was born with a hearing loss, I received my early childhood special education endorsement. I so enjoy working with families in helping their children with special needs. In the meantime, I spent a lot of time advocating for my own child within the school system -- Taryn was able to do many things and currently is attending BYU in Provo. It gives me so much joy in helping other families the way Taryn's early teachers and therapists helped my family.

I taught early intervention in Provo School District for 10 years, then moved to Santaquin and started teaching preschool for Nebo School District seven years ago. I teach children with developmental delays as well as many tuition children. Nebo School District also let me start a Parent/Child class a couple years ago where the parents come in and I teach them what I am doing so they can support the learning at home.

After many years helping as a cheer mom for Payson High with my girls, I am now involved with the Payson High School Football Booster Club. My own children's activities take up most of my free time. I love to do video editing and make highlight films for my sons’ teams, as well as for my preschool.

I am a big BYU fan. My husband is the athletic trainer for the men's basketball team. My preschoolers that are also BYU fans love to tell me and show me their cute BYU shirts. The ones that are Utah Fans love to do the same and tease me that Utah is better. To see these kids learn and improve on their skills is awesome, but to have parents feel like they know what they can do to help their child is even better.

Standing out

Jen takes time to work with each individual student in her preschool class. She knows what they love! Jen is innovative -- she started a parent and child preschool class where the parents come to school during the week to see what teaching strategies she and other therapists are using to teach their child. She makes sure that every parent and child knows that they matter and that she cares about them. Because Jen works so hard to know her students and what they love, her students work hard for her.

Above and beyond

Jen provides such a great example of an extraordinary teacher. She researches and learns about new teaching strategies and activities that engage students in learning every day. She sends emails to parents weekly and takes videos and pictures to help.
