Below is a copy of an email sent this morning to Orchard Hills parents from Mr. Murray. You can find more information at http://www.nebo.edu/node/3071 .

Parents:

I want to assure you that I am working closely with Nebo School District on the prevention and management of COVID19. At this time, I am not aware of any confirmed cases in our community or schools. We are following the local, state and national health agencies direction. The district is also sending out information to parents, so please look for that document.

At Orchard Hills, we are increasing our prevention practices in the following ways:

  • Custodians and sweepers are spending extra time each day disinfecting surfaces, doorknobs, light switches, keyboards and restrooms.

  • We will instruct students to wash hands with soap and water before lunch. Students are being instructed to wash for at least 20 seconds.

  • Students are being reminded to wash hands after using the restrooms.

  • Students are being reminded to cough or sneeze into tissues, dispose of tissues and wash hands with soap.

  • We will avoid assemblies where the entire school is gathered in one room for the next few weeks.

  • Teachers are prepared for online schooling and instruction in the event that the health department initiates school closures or dismissal. In this event, we will use Google Classroom as our Learning Management Systems. We will send home information for parents on the procedure to access information if this need arises.

  • I am closely monitoring attendance and taking a daily sickness percentage rate. Please call and excuse your child if they will be absent from school. This will help me have accurate information and data.

  • We will still hold parent conferences next week. However, if you would prefer a phone conference, please inform your child’s teacher and cancel your appointment.

We are happy to accommodate! The Health Department has informed us that students are the least likely to be affected, however, we want to be proactive and do all we can to support containment efforts. This is very important. We are committed to the health of all students, staff and teachers.

School dismissal or school closure is under the direction of the Utah County Board of Health. Nebo School District is working closely with them through each day. We will follow their direction and instruction. As I receive information, I will relay that to you as quickly as I can through email.

For further information, please visit the Utah Department of Health website: https://health.utah.gov/ . The Center for Disease Control Prevention: https://www.cdc.gov/ or Nebo School District for the most recent updates: https://www.nebo.edu .

Thank you for your patience and assistance as we work through this ever-changing challenge. I know we are all concerned, but I believe that if we are conscientious with preventative measures we will get through this successfully. If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me or the office.

Sincerely,

Ryan C. Murray
