Since Utah history is part of the fourth-grade curriculum, we took a field trip to the state capitol in late November. Here are some fun facts our fabulous fourth graders learned while touring the stunning building: all 50 state capitols have a life-size replica of the liberty bell; the interior is made with Georgia marble; much of the capitol is designed with intricate art work depicting the early life of pioneer settlers; and the governor's desk is made from the trees of maple, linden, and Japanese pagodas that were destroyed in the 1999 tornado that struck SLC. And, while all students got to sit in the Chamber of Representative, a law was passed outlawing any form of obnoxious fourth-grade behavior. :)
