Power of Writing

Rachelle Gadberry

A little over a month ago, Mrs.Gadberry's fifth graders wrote opinion essays on which restaurant they thought was the best.  They then sent the letters to the respective restaurants and there have been some really fun responses.  Both HuHot and Golden Corral came to class to let all of the kids have some samples!  Chuck-A-Rama sent one of the students a couple of meal passes and the rest of the class got multi-colored pens that they now use on most assignments.  :)

Baby Chicks are Here

Spring is on its way with all this rain and blossoms coming out.  Another sign of spring is the arrival of new baby animals.  The eggs in Mrs. Sperry's class are hatching and all the students are so excited to see those chicks!

First Graders Study Habitats

As the first grade studies habitats, they were privileged to see some fun animals at school. Melissa Cavan brought a bunny, chinchilla, ball boa, gecko, and a tortoise named Murray. Everyone learned and had a great time!

Chick-fil-A Visits Mrs. Kelly's Class

Mrs. Kelly's 5th grade class got a surprise visit from Chick-fil-A this week. A couple weeks ago, the students wrote and mailed off opinion essays to their favorite restaurant explaining why that restaurant was the best. Quincy Mills wrote to Chick-fil-A, who thought his essay was so well done that the class deserved some chicken nuggets, cookies, and a visit from the Chick-fil-A cow!

Family Literacy Night

Last night Orchard Hills held its annual Family Literacy Night.  There were several different activities going on for families to enjoy.  The activities were:  read-a-louds, Dr. Seuss Bingo, make and take, book walk, photo booth, popcorn, making oobleck, what would Seuss say, and roll and draw a Dr. Seuss character.  There was a great turn out so thank you to those that came!  A big thank you to the teachers and staff at Orchard Hills for their help and for putting it on!

Dr. Seuss Week

Students at Orchard Hills had a fun week celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss!  Each class picked a Dr. Seuss book to represent in the hall.  We had some fun dress up days to go along with some favorite Dr. Seuss books.

Monday was wear a Seuss like hat.

Tuesday was perform a random act of kindness day.

Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday.

Thursday was wear a shirt with words.

Friday was pajama day.

Everyone had such a fun week!  The week ended with each class having a read-a-thon on Friday!  We love to read!
