The sixth-grade students at Orchard Hills Elementary school recently went on a walking field trip to the Santaquin Cemetery.  Teaching the students about the beautiful Military Monument and honoring our citizens who serve our country was one of the main goals.  Respect and etiquette of the cemetery was taught and encouraged while the students worked on special projects.  Learning about the different types of stones, art work, and poetry that are on the headstones becomes fascinating to the students.

Sixth-graders participated in a science experiment exploring how the presence of sugar or salt affected yeast activity.  Six water bottles and six balloons contained different measurements of these substances.  Balloons captured the carbon dioxide that escaped from the yeast.  The circumference of each balloon was measured every ten minutes and recorded on a graph.  The results?  Yeast loves sugar, just like us!!

The kindergarten students at Orchard Hills Elementary learned about community helpers.  They were very lucky to have a few community helpers come in and talk to them.  Officer Bill Wright, from Payson Police Department, came and talked to the kindergartners about staying safe.  Rachel Lovejoy, from South Valley Pediatric Dentistry, came and talked to the students about taking care of their teeth.  Jeremy Spenst, from the Santquin Fire Department, came and talked about fire safety.  The students were able to see and walk through the fire truck.  What a fun week

Fall Field Trip

The second-grade classes went on their first field trip to the Red Barn and had a blast. They were picked up on wagons pulled by tractors and had fun riding through the orchards. They saw lots of apples on the trees and pumpkins growing on vines on the ground. They loved meandering through the maze and going down the big slides. The best part was the delicious donut at the end! It was a fabulous experience for all!
