School Carnival

On Monday, October 22, the PTA put on a school carnival.  It was a great success.  There were games, food, inflatables, a book fair, and a spook alley.  Those who attended had a wonderful time.  Thank you to the PTA for all their hard work and thank you to those who came and supported the PTA and Orchard Hills!!

Sixth-Grade Field Trip to the Cemetery

The sixth-grade students at Orchard Hills Elementary school recently went on a walking field trip to the Santaquin Cemetery.  Teaching the students about the beautiful Military Monument and honoring our citizens who serve our country was one of the main goals.  Respect and etiquette of the cemetery was taught and encouraged while the students worked on special projects.  Learning about the different types of stones, art work, and poetry that are on the headstones becomes fascinating to the students.

Habitats and Constellations

Mrs. Jackson, second grade teacher, made a planetarium for their Earth & Space Science unit so that the students could look at the stars and learn about constellations.  The students also learned about habitats and presented to the class about the habitats they learned about.

Exploring How the Presence of Sugar or Salt Affected Yeast Actvity

Sixth-graders participated in a science experiment exploring how the presence of sugar or salt affected yeast activity.  Six water bottles and six balloons contained different measurements of these substances.  Balloons captured the carbon dioxide that escaped from the yeast.  The circumference of each balloon was measured every ten minutes and recorded on a graph.  The results?  Yeast loves sugar, just like us!!

Fall Dance Festival

On Wednesday, October 10th, Orchard Hills Elementary had their annual Fall Dance Festival.  What a fun tradition for students, parents, and the community.  The Dance Festival began with Audrey Herget singing the National Anthem.  Each grade level performed a dance and some of the dances were:  Hokey Pokey, Macarena, Chicken Dance, Boogie Walk, and many others.  Thank you to the parents and the community for coming and supporting us.  It was a great success and the students love it.

Writing Assembly

On September 26th the students at Orchard Hills attended an assembly by brothers Adam adn Jarom Sidwell.  The brothers are graphic artists and Adam's first book, Evertaster, is just coming out.  They talked to the students about the power of stories.  They taught that when writing stories they should be SMART stories.

SMART stories have:

New Student Lunch

Today, students new to Orchard Hills Elementary were able to eat lunch with Mr. Murray (principal) and Mrs. Burningham (school counselor).  What a fun way to welcome those students to our school!!

Community Helpers

The kindergarten students at Orchard Hills Elementary learned about community helpers.  They were very lucky to have a few community helpers come in and talk to them.  Officer Bill Wright, from Payson Police Department, came and talked to the kindergartners about staying safe.  Rachel Lovejoy, from South Valley Pediatric Dentistry, came and talked to the students about taking care of their teeth.  Jeremy Spenst, from the Santquin Fire Department, came and talked about fire safety.  The students were able to see and walk through the fire truck.  What a fun week in kindergarten!

Fall Field Trip

The second-grade classes went on their first field trip to the Red Barn and had a blast. They were picked up on wagons pulled by tractors and had fun riding through the orchards. They saw lots of apples on the trees and pumpkins growing on vines on the ground. They loved meandering through the maze and going down the big slides. The best part was the delicious donut at the end! It was a fabulous experience for all!
